Jean Fisher, age 93 of Marblehead, MA and Richmond, VA, passed away at home on Monday, November 28th, 2022.
Born in Newport News, VA and although only living there until 7 years old, her maternal family had strong roots there and she was proud of her Southern heritage.
Her high school sweetheart become her husband in Audubon, NJ. Jean and Don were married 58 adventurous years before his passing in 2007. Their time together was a true partnership of equals. Always saddened that she could not afford to finish college, the two them found a way for her to attend 9 years of evening classes at Rutgers Univ for a bachelor’s degree while they both raised 2 young daughters. Once they became empty nesters, Jean found a career as a successful corporate librarian in downtown Boston.
Always on the go, any given weekend could find them hopping in the car to find a cozy Inn off the beaten path. Just as often, she would tell you of their upcoming trip to Greece, Africa, or Scotland – not to mention the 6-month sojourn to Australia via cargo ship and back again.
Coming from a lengthy line of talented artists, Jean was an accomplished artist herself. Mostly self-taught in the mediums of acrylics and watercolors, she won several local awards and was a member, as well as served on the Board of the Marblehead Arts Association, and Swampscott Art Assoc. She also volunteered for many years for the Marblehead Festival of Arts.
Living on Lee St in Marblehead for over 40 years was one of her greatest joys due to the love and fun they shared with their neighbors, several of whom remain to this day. She and Don also thoroughly enjoyed their many years of membership at the Boston Yacht Club.
Jean leaves behind her two daughters, Donna Fisher Long of Glen Allen, Virginia, Melissa (Missy) Fisher and son-in-law Harry Foster of Marblehead, MA. Also, Kathleen Burke of Marblehead, whom she had a daughter-like relationship. There are step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their offspring in NJ, DEL, and PA that she also held dear.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.EustisandCornellFuneralHome.com for the Fisher family.
