John A. Picariello, age 87, of Marblehead, died Tuesday May 21, 2013, in North Shore Medical Center in Salem surrounded by his family, due to complications following a long illness. He was the husband of Mary (Burke) Picariello with whom he shared 59 years of marriage. Born and raised in Swampscott, he was the son of the late John and Jennie Picariello. John graduated from Swampscott High School.
Prior to his retirement, John was the owner and head baker at John’s Home Bakery on Collins Street in Lynn. Following his retirement John worked with his son in his construction business.
John’s family meant the world to him and he thoroughly enjoyed all the time he was able to spend with them. In addition to his wife he is survived by his four children, John N. Picariello of Salem, Maryann McKie and her husband George of Marblehead, Kathleen Kethro and her husband Donald of Barnstable, and Robert Picariello and his wife Karen of Marblehead. John’s grandchildren, George and Erin McKie, Tyler and Tory Kethro, Johannah, Grace, and Katherine Picariello, and Taylor and Owen Picariello were a source of great joy in his life. Additionally he is survived by his brother, Lawrence Picariello of Swampscott, and his sister, Rose Pacak of Swampscott. He was predeceased by his sisters, Lena and Amelia, and a brother Anthony.
A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Avenue, Marblehead on Wednesday, June 5 at 10AM. Interment will be in Waterside Cemetery in Marblehead immediately following the service. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held at the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street in Marblehead on Tuesday, June 4 from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Make a Wish Foundation at www.wish.org.
