John Andrew Mace (73) passed away on January 1, 2017 surrounded by family at the North Shore Medical Center in Salem, Massachusetts after a short illness. John was born in Marblehead, the son of Andrew Y. and Hilda (Berry) Mace and the brother of Judith Erhart of New Hartford, New York.
He is a graduate of the Marblehead High School Class of 1961, from there he went on to continue his education at Wentworth Institute of Technology receiving a degree in mechanical engineering in 1963. John was employed at General Electric where he worked in the aircraft engine division for over 30 years.
John was passionate about the ocean and boating; he was one of the oldest members of the Marblehead Yacht Club where he served on the Board of Directors and was a past Commodore. He eagerly dedicated his time to help improve the club so it could be enjoyed by members for years to come. He was also a member of the Marblehead Harbor and Waters Board where he was responsible for revitalizing the launching ramp at Riverhead Beach. He was a volunteer at the Lowell’s Boat Shop in Amesbury where he enjoyed working on the restoration of boats.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cynthia (Ellison) Mace, his daughter Susan (Keyes) and her husband Edward Waters and their daughter Megan; and his son William and his wife Jennifer (Jackson) Keyes and their children Emma and John. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held in the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead on Saturday, January 7 at 11AM. Burial to follow in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. Visiting hours will be on Friday, January 6 from 4-8PM. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations in John’s name to be made for the benefit of the Intensive Care Unit of North Shore Medical Center, 81 Highland Avenue, Salem, Massachusetts, 01970, Attn: Development Office.
