James A. Hope, husband, father, coach, businessman, US Marine formerly of Framingham, died peacefully at a suburban nursing home. He was 81 and had Alzheimer’s disease. He was the husband of Natalie (Vincola) Hope with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. Born in Newton, he was the son of the late John A. and Kathryn (Hart) Hope.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, John A. Hope of Marblehead and his wife Kathryne, and a daughter Karoline A. Hope of New York City; a sister, Mrs. Jacqueline O’Leary of Osterville; and granddaughter, Sloane Matthews Hope. He was also the brother of the late Mary Shields. Jim grew up in Newton and prepared at the Browne and Nichols School in Cambridge. He graduated from Harvard University in 1951. Shortly there after he enlisted in The United States Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. He went on to earn his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He then went on to work with several major companies in the area of information systems; Honeywell, Ryerson Steel, Stone Marketing as well as partnering in the development of several start up firms in the 1980’s and 1990’s. He lived most of his adult life in Framingham where was very active in the youth hockey program, and served as Treasurer for the Perini Youth Hockey Tournament. He loved spending time on the Cape and in the mountains with family and friends, and he was an avid Harvard sports fan. Funeral services and burial in the Bourne National Cemetery will be private.
