James Galante, age 18, of Marblehead Massachusetts, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2022, after sustaining critical injuries from a car accident just a short distance from his home. He was the loving son of James and Lisa Galante, and a caring brother to his older sister Dahlia Galante, and two younger brothers Julius and Oscar Galante. Beloved by his grandparents, Nancy Galante, the late Ernest Galante, Maureen Addonizio, Frank Addonizio, Joseph Grimmo and his longtime girlfriend Shea Burton.
A true Marbleheader, “Big Game James,” was well known for his active role in the community. He spent the majority of his life playing football, baseball, basketball and track and field. In high school however, he found his true passion: football. He was a starting cornerback on the Marblehead Highschool Varsity Football Team and aided the team in winning their first ever MIAA DIV 3 state championship at Gillette Stadium this fall. A MIAA DIV3 Dunn All-Star, James was recently committed to play football at Denison University in September and planned to be a physics major.
Off the field, while soft spoken, James was so fortunate to come across so many amazing people in his life: spending 9 years at Brookwood School in Manchester, MA; attending St. John’s Prep his freshman year in Danvers, MA; and having his last three years spent at Marblehead High School. Whether it was a teacher, coach, friend, or family member, James was both guided by these mentors in his life and left an impressionable mark on those he came in contact with.
Visiting hours for James will be held on Sunday, March 27, 2022, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave, Marblehead, Massachusetts 01945. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 28, 2022 at 11:30 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. Burial will be private at Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead.
