James C. Full

James Caldwell Full, 87, a lifelong Marblehead resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, November 14, 2016. He was a graduate of Marblehead High School and graduated from Mass Maritime Academy in 1950. After graduation he sailed in the merchant marine with Farrell Shipping Lines and served in the Navy during the Korean War.

Since his childhood Jim has been centered on the water. He and his brothers and sisters spent many happy hours boating around Little Harbor and Brown’s Island. Jim and his brother “Giffy” also ran the excursion and fishing boat “Queen”. Following that he was employed by the Marblehead Transportation Company and then went on to become an owner of Gilbert & Cole Building Supply Co. until his retirement.

Jim was a past master and a 50+ year member of the Philanthropic Lodge of Masons and belonged to the Shriners as well. He was active in the Mass Maritime Alumni Association and participated in planning several class reunions. In later years Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, travelling, walks and visiting his friends at State Street Wharf.

Jim is survived by his sisters, Barbara West of Middleboro, Massachusetts, and Caroline Powers of Palmetto, Florida, his brother, Giffy of Brooklyn, Maine, his son, Richard and his wife Jennifer of South Hamilton, and his son, James and his wife Elizabeth of Marblehead, four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his close friend, Anne Smith of Marblehead.

Visiting hours will be held at the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead on Thursday, December 1 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. A private graveside service will be at Waterside Cemetery on Friday, December 2. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Burns Institute or St. Michael’s Church.
