David Brewster Bartlett, 92, of Ipswich, formerly of Boxford, Danvers & Marblehead, entered eternal rest surrounded by his loving family on Monday, September 30, 2024. He was the beloved husband of his high school sweetheart, Nancy (Shillington) Bartlett of 72 years.
Born in Marblehead to Elmer & Marion Bartlett he graduated from Marblehead High School of which he was captain of the football team and played baseball. He went on for one year at Worcester Academy and graduated from Dartmouth College.
David’s insurance career began with Kemper Insurance Company, and in 1962 he purchased the Charles A Slee Agency, Inc. in Marblehead until his retirement. Among David’s many achievements & Involvements were: President of Marblehead Booster Club, Vice President of Marblehead Little League, Director of Swampscott/Marblehead YMCA , Chamber of Commerce, and Marblehead Visiting Nurse Association. He was a member of Rotary Club of Marblehead, receiving the Paul Harris Fellow Award, Marblehead Elks Club, Marblehead Savings Bank, Tedesco Country Club. David and Nancy have been active members of the First Church Congregational of Boxford for over 60 dedicated years.
In addition to being inducted into the Marblehead Grid Iron Hall of Fame in 1991, David scored 18 points for Worcester Academy football on his 18th birthday. He served 65 years as a Master Mason for the Order of the Free and Accepted Masons of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. His devotion to family was unwavering and he always showed compassion in reaching out to even those who were not his own. Taking the place of their father after an early death, David became father to Keith, Dean, and Stephen Rando. He enjoyed golfing, boating, and cruising. Although he had many friends, his family was his pride with which he enjoyed sharing time and vacations.
He is survived by 7 children: Cheryl Noyes of New Port Richey, FL, Cynthia Rando & Philip Lenzi of Goffstown, NH, Christine Malynn of Georgetown, Caryn & Dean Rando of Danvers, Sandra & Christopher Davey of North Andover, Douglas Bartlett of Ipswich, and Scott Bartlett of Gilford, NH., and a predeceased son, David L Bartlett. He also leaves 16 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Dad , we will miss you. When life became a challenge, you became our sanity and comfort when we needed clarity. You were always that person we could count on, without judgement to provide wise words of advise. Your love, dedication, and strong values will forever remain in our hearts and memories.
Visiting hours will be held for David on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Eustis & Cornell of Marblehead, 142 Elm Street. A Committal Service will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. A Celebration of David's Life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at First Church Congregational, 4 Georgetown Rd., Boxford, MA.
