Our beloved Catherine "Katie" Ruth Martin passed away peacefully on May 24 at home with her friends and family by her side. Cancer is cruel and, for some unknown reason, decided to be its cruelest to this strong and amazing woman who was a formidable opponent for over four years.
Katie was born on November 21, 1975, in Providence, Rhode Island to Susan and Charles Martin, of Tiverton, RI, the eldest of three daughters. Katie, who was a popular, very funny, and athletic student graduated from Bishop Connally High School where she made life-long friends. Her love for the environment and appreciation for the beauty in our surroundings led to a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She had a rewarding career as a Licensed Landscape Architect at DeVellis Zrein, Inc.
It was at the University of Massachusetts that Katie met Jeffery (Jeff) St. George, the love of her life. Their marriage was a testament to their enduring love and partnership, filled with cherished memories and shared dreams. Together, they built a life rooted in love, respect, and mutual support as a couple and, most importantly, as the proud parents of their two amazing daughters, Emma and Charlotte St. George.
To remember Katie is to remember one of the most kindhearted, headstrong, compassionate, and hilarious people that we were all lucky to know. Katie’s number one goal was the success of her children, and she was so proud of the young women they have become. Katie loved her community of Marblehead and fought hard for its public school system and gardens for alternative outdoor learning spaces. Katie loved to travel with friends and family, whether locally, nationally, or globally and would often plan the next trip while on a current one. Katie loved to go for walks with her dogs Chaplin and Bob, take long runs, and spend a couple of hours at Sand Dollar Cove on a nice weekend. To remember Katie is a blessing that we were all lucky enough to receive and should cherish forever.
Katie is survived by her loving husband, Jeff St. George; her daughters, Emma Martin St. George and Charlotte Lily St. George; her parents, Susan and Charles Martin; her sisters Jamie Martin (David Haeems) and Erin Brown and their families; her in-laws, Allyson Preston and Dan St. George and Sara and Michael Moskal; numerous extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly, as will Bob Robert, her faithful four-legged friend and companion.
Katie’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the love and support shown during this difficult time especially to her team at the MGH Danvers Cancer Center who supported and fought for Katie for over four years, Ricky Preston, Lisa Keith, and Kristen Pratt who often put Katie’s needs ahead of their own. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her. Katie was the best.
Visitation hours will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 from 12:00 to 3:00pm at The Boston Yacht Club, 1 Front St, Marblehead, MA. Friends are welcome to stop by. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mass General Cancer Center, Danvers at https://www.massgeneral.org/cancer-center/about/community-locations/north-shore in memory of Katie Martin. There will also be a celebration of life service in Rhode Island in August, details to follow. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at eustisandcornellfuneralhome.com for Katie's family.
