who was laid to rest on October 1, 2021. Devoted father of Michael Shea and his wife Amy of North Andover. Cherished “Pop-Pop” of Jackson Shea. Loving brother of James Shea of Worcester and the late Madeline Shea and Judy Fogarty of Worcester. Also survived by his many beloved nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Artie grew up in Worcester becoming a proud graduate of St. Peter’s High School where he made many life-long friends and played Football, Basketball and Baseball. After high school, he earned a degree in English at Worcester State University and a master’s degree in Accounting from Bentley University. Artie and Joan moved to Marblehead in the late 1970’s where they raised their son Michael and their beloved dogs.
Artie dedicated his life to public service, starting his career as an English teacher but eventually holding roles such as the Treasurer of the MBTA, and Chief Finance Officer for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation as well as the Boston Public School System.
He could regale any audience with humorous tales of government inefficiencies, questionable spending, and unsolved problems. Artie also served as a chef for the National Guard, later bringing his penchant for cooking mouthwatering foods home, to his family. He always enjoyed a delicious meal – especially if it contained steak and potatoes – and loved trying new recipes he had seen on TV. Perhaps his most proud activity was the time he spent volunteering in youth sports in Marblehead, coaching Michael and his friends in Basketball and Baseball as they grew up.
Artie was a dedicated historian, he loved politics and consumed current events around the clock. He was always up for topical debates and discussions, often connecting today’s happenings with historical events. He was ever the “classic Irish” storyteller with a magnificent sense of humor, providing a story with a lesson for almost any situation. He truly cherished his time spent with family and friends.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday August 25th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Eustis & Cornell of Marblehead, 142 Elm Street.
