Ruthie, 82, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2023, at the Park Manor Nursing Home in Bee Cave, Texas, right outside of Austin, Texas. Ruthie had suffered multiple falls over the last two years resulting in various injuries and was having great difficulty regaining her strength and independence. In the last few months, she was also suffering from dementia.
Ruthie was born on July 19, 1941, in Atlanta, GA to James Roland Rimer and Laura McCord Peeples Rimer. Growing up in Atlanta, then Athens, Decatur, Avondale Estates, GA, Ruthie’s ‘southern’ childhood was something she loved and her memories of growing up were always so positive and joyful. She graduated from Decatur High School and maintained close friendships with schoolmates through the years and attended the reunions to re-connect. She attended Emory University in Atlanta, and after moving to Los Angeles, attended the Glendale Community College. Her first primary job was with Delta Airlines and she spent decades loving the travel industry where she met her beloved husband, Donald Alan Mulvihill in San Francisco. She spent several years with Thomas Cook and Tandum Computers as their travel organizer. Don and Ruthie spent many years in Northern California until they moved to Scottsdale, AZ and began new chapters in their lives. Ruthie got very involved in real estate with Don and also spent years working at the May Gallery representing artists of great talent that she admired. After Don passed in 2005, Ruthie worked at St. Barnabas on the Desert and finally at the Lovin’ Manor Nursing Facility. Ruthie moved to Izmir, Turkey for a number of years to be closer to her beloved brother, Jay and his wife, Nalan and their family. Upon returning to the states she moved to Clearwater, Florida where she got very involved in the Church of the Ascension Episcopal Church, serving on the Flower Guild and serving as a reader for services. Finally, she relocated to the Austin, Texas area to be closer to her niece Laura Tyson and her family. She initially lived in Horseshoe Bay and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
When Ruthie could no longer safely live alone, her niece, Laura Tyson, assisted her in moving into a beautiful Senior Living Facility called Brookdale Gaines Ranch in South Austin. While in Austin, she became a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. The family is grateful to St. Michael’s for all of their love and support during her final weeks.
Ruthie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Don Mulvihill, her parents James and Laura Rimer, her stepson Michael Mulvihill and her nephew Michael Tyson. Knowing she would see them brought her tremendous joy and comfort. She will be greatly missed by her sister Laura Rimer Lanza, her brother Lt. Col. James Rimer and his wife Nalan Rimer, her stepson Jeff Mulvihill and his wife Heather Mulvihill, her daughter-in-law Lynell Mulvihill and their children and grandchildren.
Laura’s children Leslie Lanza, Mark Lanza and son-in-law Mark Chou, Laura Lanza Tyson, Heather Lanza Turpin and her husband Gerald Turpin, Marie Lanza Reeves and her husband Dan Reeves remained close to their Aunt and enjoyed visits. Their children, Ashley and Alyssa Feagans, Meagan and David Tyson, Cora, Isabelle and Madelyn Turpin and Lillian and Harper Reeves adored their Great-Aunt Ruthie and often called her on Facetime. She will also be missed by her brother’s children Stephanie Rimer Smith, her husband Charlie Smith and their daughters Brooke and Brianna Smith, Melis Rimer Ragusin, her husband Roberto Ragusin and their children Nicole and Luca Ragusin, and Osman Rimer, his wife Yuksel Ak Rimer and their sons Can Areas and Kaya Rimer. Ruthie also was also very proud of her grandchildren Ryan Mulvihill, Natalie Mulvihill, Sean Mulvihill, Josh Mulvihill and his wife Jordyn Mulvihill, Callie Mulvihill, and her great grandchildren Cooper and Ryder Mulvihill.
Ruthie will be taken to the Memorial Garden at St. Barnabas in the Desert, Scottsdale, Arizona, to be buried next to her beloved Don on October 19, 2023, at 4:30 p.m.
