Pauline "Polly" Louise Dalton, of Meadowlakes, Texas, returned to her Heavenly Home on November 24, 2023, at the age of 83, after a short battle with cancer. She died peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Our beautiful mother, Grammy, Aunt Polly is survived by her two children: Lloyd Dalton, Jr. and Heather of Meadowlakes, Texas, and Kyle Dalton and Anne of Cedar Park, Texas; daughter-in-law GayAnn Dalton; six grandkids, the lights of her life, Danielle, Noah, Ashley, and Haylee Dalton, Jason and Michael Talley; and sister Dolores Nix and Buddy.
Polly was born the fifth of six kids into a farming family in Louise, Texas on May 15, 1940. At age one, the family moved to El Paso to pursue new farmland. She followed her father everywhere on the farm and fell in love with the outdoors, sometimes serving as a plug for his irrigation ditches at age nine before learning how to drive a tractor at age 12.
She enjoyed school, participated in talent shows, and graduated from Ysleta High School in 1958. She worked at a bank after graduation and soon met the love of her life, Lloyd. They married on January 8, 1959, and had their first child, Jennifer Lorraine, on October 4, 1959, at Providence Hospital in El Paso.
The pair welcomed their second child, Lloyd Arlon, Jr., "Bubba," on September 13, 1961. Polly returned to working at the bank when Bubba turned four and remained in that position until November 1, 1969, when they welcomed their third child, Kyle Allen.
In 1970, the family followed Lloyd's job with Mountain Bell/Southwestern Bell and moved to Austin. Polly began working for the phone company in 1973.
Sadly, on December 22, 1978, the family suffered a painful tragedy when Jenny died in a car accident along with two other people. The family, which was in the process of moving to Waco, endured an incredible sequence of events, holding the funeral on December 23, followed by Christmas, and moving to Waco on December 26.
Polly became a draftsperson with the phone company in Waco and worked there until 1991, when she and Lloyd retired and moved to live on Lake LBJ in Granite Shoals. The pair enjoyed life on the lake for a decade before trading in their fishing poles for golf clubs and moving to Meadowlakes Golf Course in Meadowlakes, Texas.
In addition to golf, she enjoyed volunteering for various organizations, including the Service League, Place of Hope, and her church. She also enjoyed regularly playing bridge with her friends at home gatherings before the pandemic, and online in the last few years. And she loved cheering on the Texas Longhorns!
In late July, she was diagnosed with lung cancer, her third bout with the disease, and in the remaining four months, she lived life exactly how she did every other day before — to the fullest, sharing her smile, warm personality, and unconditional love with her family and many friends who paid visits and shared many memorable moments from the past.
She repeated in her final days how she was so blessed and grateful for her life and acknowledged that she wouldn't have made it through so many trying experiences in life without God guiding her and giving her strength and grace to get through them all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, after 53 years of marriage; daughter, Jennifer; son, Edward (Eddie); mother and father, Robert and Edith Adler; brothers Everett, Woodrow (Woody), and Jack Adler; and sister, Joyce Schiber.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 16, at First Methodist Church of Marble Falls, Texas. A reception will be held at the church.
