Nelda was born in Coolidge, TX in 1933. In the early 1940’s, along with her family, she moved to Deer Park, Texas. After graduating from Deer Park High School in 1950, Nelda attended The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. It was there that she met her husband Glenn Sanders while on a double blind date, she would later lead him to Christ. Their 64 year love story is displayed on the wall at UMHB as a part of the dedication for their Presidential Endowed Scholarship. Glenn and Nelda started the scholarship in recognition of their love for both each other and UMHB, and to pay forward the scholarship that Nelda received from the Business and Professional Women’s Club who's scholarship allowed Nelda to remain at school until she graduated. They wanted to share the blessings of the university with generations to come, in the same way it had been gifted to Nelda.
After marrying, Glenn and Nelda briefly moved to Maryland, then they relocated to Deer Park, Texas where they raised their three daughters. The two eventually retired to Horseshoe Bay, Texas and became members of First Baptist Church Marble Falls. During their 64 years of marriage, they would host foreign exchange students and international co-workers. They also volunteered within their community with various organizations serving cancer patients and their families. Nelda continued to share her love of Christ with everyone right up to the end.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to the Glenn and Nelda Sanders Presidential Endowment scholarship fund at The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
