Born November 25th, 1929 to Duke and Beulah Singleton, she was the 5th of 7 children. Mary Louise Gwendolyn was welcomed by her older sister Lorena and 3 older brothers Willard, Hugh, and Stanley. Two other sisters, Ruby and Jane, followed shortly after.
Mary Lou attended school in Travis Peak and graduated from Marble Falls High School in 1951. On June 6th, 1952, she married Erby Garrett, also of Travis Peak. Their walk together spanned 59 years. After 7 years, the couple welcomed the 1st of their 3 miracle babies. James Melvin “Jimmy” Garrett was born in March of 1959, followed by their daughter Cathy Lou born in December of 1962, and Joel Wayne born in November of 1965.
Mary Lou loved community and fellowship dearly. Armed with delicious homemade lemonade and often a meringue pie, her greatest joy was in entertaining the many friends and family that would often stop by to visit. All who stopped by were welcome visitors with whom to share news and photographs. Much admired for her ability to grow flowers and fruit trees, many will remember sharing her figs, lemons, pomegranates, peaches, and jelly from her front-yard grapevines.
A beloved friend to many, she is survived by her son Joel Garrett, her daughter and son-in-law Cathy and Jeff Felps, her daughter-in-law Deborah Garrett, seven grandchildren, and four great-grand-children.
