Leroy August Weirich, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and active member of the community, passed away on June 26, 2023, in Johnson City, Texas, at the age of 79. He was born on January 5, 1944, in Blanco County, Texas, to the late Marvin Ferdinand Weirich and Linda Klappenbach Weirich.
Leroy's dedication to his family was unwavering. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley Johnson Weirich, his daughter, Lori Tolbert and her husband Tracy, as well as son Rusty Weirich and his wife Kim. Leroy cherished his role as a grandfather to his grandchildren, Mikayla, Rylee, Reagan, and Reid, and his companion and beloved dog, Bitty Baby. He also leaves behind his brother Edward Weirich and his wife Pat; his two aunts, Berthie Weirich of Georgetown, and Viola Hall of Austin; along with numerous cousins, other relatives, and many dear friends.
Leroy began his educational journey in Johnson City and Blanco, Texas, ultimately graduating from Blanco High School. He then completed the program at Austin Electronics School and went on to attend the University of Texas.
In 1977 Leroy and his family moved to Blanco where he owned Leroy’s Electric Co. for many years. After taking a position at Pedernales Electric Cooperative, Leroy closed his business and worked for PEC in Johnson City, Texas, where he served diligently for 24 years before retiring.
Community service was a fundamental aspect of Leroy's life. He was actively involved in various civic duties, including his commitment to the Volunteer Fire Department and EMS in Blanco, Texas. Leroy's contributions led him to hold positions of responsibility, including Fire Marshal and Chief. He also served on the Trinity Lutheran Church council, coached little league baseball, volunteered for the Blanco Valley Jamboree, and held a seat on the Blanco City Council.
Leroy had a zest for life and enjoyed simple pleasures. He loved hunting, country music, and, above all, a good cold beer. He found immense joy in cheering for his children’s sporting events and spending time with his family, grandchildren, and sharing moments filled with laughter and love.
Leroy August Weirich will be remembered as a dedicated family man, a pillar of the community, and a cherished friend. His legacy of service and his devotion to family will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday, July 7, 2023, at Crofts – Crow Funeral Home in Johnson City. Funeral services honoring Leroy will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 4270 Ranch Rd. 1, Stonewall, TX 78671. A reception will follow at church. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM that afternoon at Miller Creek Cemetery in Johnson City.
