Jerry Madden, a resident of Meadowlakes, Texas passed away after a recent illness on April, 21st, 2014. Born in Ironton, Ohio on Oct. 8th, 1927, Frederick Jerome Madden was the son of John L. and Lorena Madden of Ironton. He was a resident of Ironton until he enlisted in the army in 1945 after graduating St. Joseph’s High School.
He served in Austria for two years and then attended Xavier University in Ohio after the end of WW2. He graduated in 1950 and was employed by Ashland Oil as a chemist. He was transferred to Buffalo, New York where he served at Ashland’s Tonawanda Refinery before transferring to its sales force and also worked on his master’s degree. In 1964, Mr. Madden became the sales manager for Ashland Chemical and relocated to Worthington, Ohio. Two years later he became a consultant for an Ashland subsidiary in Downer’s Grove, Illinois and from there was reassigned to Houston, Texas, as a sales manager. Later, he began a partnership business Solvents and Chemicals and moved to Taylor Lake from west Houston. After retirement, he and his wife Barbara moved to Highland Haven, Texas and then Meadowlakes, Texas.
Mr. Madden was surrounded by a large and loving family. He met his wife, Barbara (nee Barron) in high school and they enjoyed 63 years together as a married couple and had seven children.. His family enjoyed his corny sense of humor and his astute mind. Always an avid reader, he encouraged all of his children to graduate from college and he was proud that they all did.
Mr. Madden is survived by his wife, Barbara, daughter Kathleen Meador and her husband Steve, son Dr. Kenneth Madden and wife, Sandra, daughter Peggy Madden and husband Ken Bosna, daughter Patricia Elliott and husband Tim, daughter Bridget Madden and husband David Garcia, son John Madden and wife Pam, and son Christopher Madden and wife Connie. In addition there are numerous grandchildren: Nicole Scott, Brooke Meador, Suzanne Meador, Katie Meador, Michael Madden, Jennie Madden, Jason Elliott, Sean Elliott, Rebecca Santasarie, Rachel Kakos, Patrick Madden, Trevor Madden, Colin Madden, Pumarie Madden, Jesse Madden and Logan Madden. In addition there were eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Madden also has a brother, Dr. Michael Madden and sisters in law, Karen and Christine. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Thomas and his wife Janet, and nephew Brian.
Viewing will be on Friday April 25th at 10 am followed by funeral mass at 11 am.
