Funeral services for Fay Elaine Gruetzner, 87 of Highland Haven, Texas are scheduled for 1:00 pm on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls with Rev. Richard Goodwill officiating. Burial will take place on Monday, January 22 at 12:00 noon in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195 Killeen, Texas. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 5 – 7 pm at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, Marble Falls, Texas.
Mrs. Gruetzner passed away during the late morning hours of January 10, 2018 in her room at the Granite Mesa Health Center of Marble Falls where she had been residing since late June of 2017 due to medical issues.
Fay Elaine (Kiesling) Gruetzner was born on August 26, 1930 in Houston, Texas, the only child of Friedrich Andreas & Rose Marie (Wohlgemuth) Kiesling. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Houston. Fay was united in marriage to Otto Karl Gruetzner Jr. of Austin, Texas on December 31, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Houston by Rev. Elmo Miertschin. She and Otto celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on New Year’s Eve of 2017. Fay was a member of Hope Lutheran Church of Marble Falls as well as a charter member of the congregation.
A loving wife and dedicated homemaker, Fay raised three sons with Otto before seeking employment outside the home. Following the sale of the family car dealership, Fay and Otto followed two of their sons into the field of law enforcement. Fay served as a peace officer in Lago Vista and Cedar Park before working as Deputy Constables for Travis County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office. Upon retiring as deputy constables, and following their move to Burnet County, Fay and Otto worked as Reserve Deputy Sheriffs for the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office until January of 2013. In addition to being a licensed aircraft pilot, Fay also served the community as a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 75 where she and Otto patrolled the lakes in the family boat and flew coastal patrols in the family airplane.
Fay was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Rose Kiesling and one grandson, Timothy Lee Gruetzner. Fay is survived by her husband Otto Karl Gruetzner Jr.; her sons and daughters-in-law, David & Jean Gruetzner of Granite Shoals, Richard & Cathleen Gruetzner of Burnet and Terry & Pamela Gruetzner of Austin; seven grandchildren, Kevin Gruetzner of Spokane, Washington, Brooke & Marcus Federman of Spicewood, Audrey & Ryan Teague of Robinson, Rachel Gruetzner of Granite Shoals, Jeffery Gruetzner of Austin, David Gruetzner of Austin; and five great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers are sons, David Gruetzner, Richard Gruetzner, Terry Gruetzner and grandsons Jeffery Gruetzner, David Gruetzner, Marcus Federman and Ryan Teague.
