Wilbur "Bill" E. Ward, 86, of Mansfield passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at Arbors at Mifflin. He was born October 28, 1931, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Edgar Ward and Bernice (Leinard) Young.
Bill was formerly employed as a pattern maker at Martin Steel for 16 years and retired from Empire Detroit Steel after 30 years of service as a guard. He was a good, kind hearted man and loved his family dearly. Whenever possible, he attended Pathway Church of the Nazarene with his loving wife, Gloria. Bill was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and The Ohio State University Buckeyes. He enjoyed spending his free time fishing, and watching old movies and westerns on television. He regularly went to meet and play cards with his buddies at the VFW in Ontario.
Bill is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gloria Ward; daughter, Cheryl (Mike) Finley of Mansfield; son, William (Kathie) Ward of Westerville, OH; four grandchildren, Shawna (Chris) Lay of Shelby, Corby Ward of Westerville, Casey (Julie) Ward and Courtney Ward, both of Naples, FL; four great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Aubrey, Evan and Caleb; and two nieces and their families.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Jim Carder officiating. Bill will be laid to rest in Ashland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Pathway Church of the Nazarene.
A special thank you from the family to Arbors at Mifflin for the wonderful care they gave to Bill and continue to give to Gloria.
