Wayne L. Rush, 81 of 1225 Michael Drive died April 19, 2000 at home following a brief illness. Mr. Rush was born August 11, 1918 in Mansfield being a life long resident. He retired from J & B Acoustical and also worked as caretaker for Lantz Cemetery and Lee Ray Harp. He was a member of V.F.W. post #3494 and a fifty year member of Carpenter Union #735. Mr. Rush was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. Wayne was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and an avid Nascar and Indians fan. He was a stock car driver from 1939 to mid 1970's and also a flagman at Mansfield Raceway.
Surviving are his wife whom he married February 6, 1993, Mary Whiteside Rush; two daughters and sons-in-law; Charlotte and Roger Tupps of Mansfield; and Wendy Lee and David Justice of Groveport, Ohio; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne Jr. and Diann Rush of Mansfield; and Roger Sr. and Ada Rush of Mansfield; one step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Mary Lee and William Jansen of Ashland, Ohio; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and step-granddaughters; two brothers, Robert Rush and Orie Rush both of Mansfield; two sisters, Myrtle Simmers and Wilma Palmer both of Mansfield and his faithful dog, Buffy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orlo and Lottie Camp Rush; his first wife of 50 years, Mildred Rush who died January 1992; two grandsons, Timmy and Scott; four sisters; and two brothers.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Friday April 21, 2000 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 22, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home conducted by Pastor David Bates of Unity Freewill Baptist of Galion. Burial will be in Lantz Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to MedCentral Hospice.
