She was born on December 23, 1940 in Philadelphia, PA to Sarah Elizabeth Williams and Robert Watkins and adopted at five days old by Espie & Bessie Carter.
Wanda was a product of Christian education attending several boarding schools and graduating from Oakwood College (University) in Huntsville, AL.
The Carters started Carter’s Nursing Home in their Oberlin Vine Street home in 1945 and expanded to a full nursing facility on E. Lorain Street and two additional facilities in Cleveland, OH. Wanda was the Administrator from 1973 until it’s closing in 1991.
She was a member of the Park Street Seventh-day Adventist Church in Oberlin, and she enjoyed traveling, reading and sending cards and letters.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Stephanie (Edroy) McMillan, Mansfield, OH and Angèle Peterson, Lorain, OH; goddaughter, Lynette Jackson, Elyria, OH; godson, Oliver Palmer, Alpharetta, GA; granddaughter, Olivia McMillan; grandson, Avery Jackson; aunts, Hilda N. Dobbins, Columbus, OH and Gertrude Collins, Pennsauken, NJ; sisters, Linda (Grafton) Burley, Madison, AL and Roberta (Albert) Wainwright, Atlanta, GA; brother, Walter (Christie) Watkins, New Bedford, MA; the father of her daughters, Edward (Yvette) Peterson, Pittsburgh, PA; cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, too many to name but never forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her parents Espie & Bessie Carter.
The Family will receive friends at 11 am on Friday, July 24, 2015 at The First Church in Oberlin, 106 North Main Street, Oberlin, OH, followed by a memorial service at 12 pm to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Wanda to Adventist Frontier Missions (afmonline.org) or the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (phaassociation.org).
