Virginia Eileen Smiley

Virginia was born on December 5, 1928 in Galion, Ohio, and she was the daughter of Cecil and Lottie (Steigerwald) Stevens. Virginia married the love of her life, Lorance "Gene" Smiley on August 22, 1948 and they built a wonderful life together. She lived a full life surrounded by her family of which she adored. She cherished each and everyone of them, and was very involved with her grandchildren. Virginia and Gene were amazing parents, who loved their family. Virginia was a very talented crafter which included: stained glass, painting, crocheting, cross stitch, basket making, beading, and making jewelry. Her family will miss her dearly.

Virginia lovingly leaves to cherish many fond memories her children, Barbara McClarren (John Reale), Sandra K. Bittner, Michael (Teresa) Smiley, and Paula Smiley; her adored grandchildren, Jason (Debbie) McClarren, Cristin (David) Pappert, Heidi Benjamin, Shane Bittner, Tracy (Joanna) Lanum, Andrea (Ronald) Williams, Troy Smiley, Ronald (Grace) Clum, and Chad (Autumn) Wright; 21 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way; her brother, Norman Eugene "Sam" Stevens; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband who passed away on September 18, 2008, Lorance Eugene "Gene" Smiley; her sons-in-law, Thomas McClarren and Bill Bittner; and her siblings, Gerald Cecil "Stubby" Stevens, Russell Stevens, Walter Stevens, Robert Stevens, Fairy Casey Pendelton, and Raymond Stevens.

There will be no public services observed for Virginia. Please consider making a memorial contribution in her honor to Avita Hospice, 1220 N. Market St., Galion, OH 44833. The Wappner Cremation Center is honored to serve the Smiley family.
