Verona Ann Barley

Verona Ann Barley, 79, of Mansfield, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Mansfield Place. She was born July 15, 1937, in Bellwood, West Virginia, to the late Harmon Taylor and Gracie (Gwinn) Taylor Dotson.

Her love of reading fit perfectly with her occupation as a librarian at the Mansfield Richland County Public Library where she worked for 23 1/2 years. Verona was a member of Cook Road Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was a Bible School leader. She loved traveling to the ocean and watching the sunset. Verona was a master quilt maker and made each of her grandchildren a quilt of their own.

She is survived by three children, Robert Paul (Sallie) Barley of Mansfield, Deborah Ann (Rick) Cooke of Ashland, George Wesley (Kim) Barley of Mansfield; thirteen grandchildren, Chris Barley, Grace (Chris) Larson, Ray (Jessica) Barley, Natalie (Jeramy) Gadd, Krystle (Adam) Croteau, Ryan McClintock, Brittany (Cody) Cook, Rebekah (Jim) Shambre, Danielle Barley, Elizabeth (Ariel) Sacia, Tyler Barley (Lindsay Henson), Hannah Barley and Olivia Barley; seventeen (soon to be eighteen) great-grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn (Bob) Sauder; a brother, Johnny (Libby) Dotson; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two very special people she considered daughters, Amy (Roger) Ryder and Deb (Rowland) Kiser; a special friend, Norman (Carol) Kempton; two sisters-in-law, Maxine (Colin) Williams and Hitty Knight; and two brothers-in-law, Duke (Donna) Barley and Johnny (Sharon) Barley.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Barley; and brother, George Dotson.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2017, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The funeral service conducted by Rev. Jack Hackworth will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mansfield Place Assisted Living in honor of Verona Barley.
