
Thomas C. 'Pop' Maxhimer, 76, of Mansfield, died Sunday, July 22, 2007 at his home. Born January 4, 1931 in Ashland, he was the son of Harold Thomas and Donna Henrietta Clark Maxhimer. He retired from Food Town where he worked as a meat cutter and had also previously been a Deputy Sheriff in Ashland County. Pop was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and NASCAR. He was active in the Boy Scouts of American for over 10 years as Scout Master. A strong, jovial man of few words, Pop will be remembered for his great cooking. He was a source of support and strength for his family.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gladys Emerson Maxhimer; four sons, Samuel Taylor of Delaware, William Becky Taylor of Greensboro, NC, Robert Cyndy Maxhimer of Corpus Christi, TX and Tim Diane Maxhimer of North Lewisburg; two daughters, Cindy Maxhimer of Marysville and Sharon Jeff Conley of Mansfield; fifteen grandchildren, Mary Lynn Mitchell of FL, Dirk Moore of Houston, TX, Kristen Luchinsky, Randy Taylor, Nina Bagby, Shannon Staples and Phillip Dent, Jr., all of VA, Maureen Taylor, Jessica Taylor, Brandon Conley, and Corey Conley, all of Mansfield, Robert Maxhimer of Santa Monica, CA, Ashley Maxhimer of Austin, TX, Christopher Maxhimer and Brittney Maxhimer, both of North Lewisburg; twelve great-grandchildren; a sister, Janet Maxhimer of IL; and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and good friends. Preceding him in death were his infant son, Thomas Maxhimer, Jr., son, James Maxhimer, parents, and sister, Bonnie Engle.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 26 at 1:00 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, conducted by Rev. Dr. Faith Proietti. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12-1 p.m. Burial will follow in Windsor Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
