Thomas E. Evans, 87, of Ontario, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 28, 2018, at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby, Ohio. He was born October 17, 1930 in Loudonville, Ohio, the only son of the late Edwin Joseph and Nellie Helena (Russell) Evans.
He graduated from Mansfield Senior High School. Tom was employed at Gorman Rupp for 35 years and retired as an inspector. He was a member of the Lions Club of Ontario for over 55 years and the Gorman Rupp 25-Year Club. Tom was a longtime member of the Ontario United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Avalon R. Shumaker Evans whom he married in 1952; four children, Richard (Caryl) Evans of Cincinnati, Jill Sharwark of Euclid, Robert (Emily) Evans of Richmond, VA, and Kristen Evans of Wooster; five grandchildren, Amanda Sharwark, Rebecca (Tim) Shade, Benjamin Evans, Caralyn Evans and Joshua Evans; three sisters, Beverly Lloyd, Shirley Robinson and Sandy (Joe) Bailey; and his aunt, Bunny Wachtel of Ashland. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Rinehart.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2018, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The Lions Club of Ontario will present a service at the conclusion of the visitation. The memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m at Ontario United Methodist Church, 3540 Park Avenue West, with additional visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Karen Wagenhals and Rev. Peg Welch will conduct the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests, memorial contributions be made to the Lions Club of Ontario or Hospice of North Central Ohio.
