Thomas Mark Bloom died February 26, 2015 at Liberty Nursing Center in Mansfield, Ohio, following the effects of Alzheimer Disease. Tom was born in Crestline, the son of Morris and Mildred (Haydler) Bloom and lived most of his life in Mansfield. He was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School in 1956 and attended Miami University in Ohio.
Tom was the owner/operator of Bloom Tire Company and later, he and his brother-in-law, Paul Danas, were partners in the ownership and operation of Tuttle the Florist in Mansfield. He was an avid car guy and was affiliated with various sports car clubs and held a competition license with Sports Car Club of America for many years.
Tom married Karen Crotty Barrett in 1991 and Karen Survives him. Tom's children include his son, Thomas "Mark" Bloom II; daughter, Sallie Bloom Neal; and step-children, Shawn Byrne, Beth Schaible, Patrick Barrett, and Michael (Susan) Barrett. Tom was blessed by and dearly loved all of his grandchildren: Clay (Ericka), Austin (fiancée, Gretchen), and Shelby Neal, Hannah and Mitchell Bloom, Caitlin, Patrick, and Bridget Byrne, Brendan, Bryan, and Meagan Barrett, Brittany Noone, Kate Norris, and finally, Hope Schaible! Every one of them brought a great, toothy smile to their Grandpa Bloom's face!
Tom was the kind of man whose word and handshake were as solid as any contract. He was an honorable man and simply, a really nice guy! To say that Tom loved the Ohio State Buckeyes would be an understatement.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Road, Ontario. Tom's favorite day of the year was Friday the 13th! Even when he raced at Nelson Ledges and other tracks, his car number was 13! Thus, to bid Tom a fond farewell and to celebrate his life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 13, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 104 West First Street, Mansfield, officiated by Father Gregory Hite. A luncheon reception will immediately follow at the Franciscan Center. In lieu of flowers, any gift to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, would be the dearest thing to do in Tom's memory.
Lastly, Godspeed Tommy! Your work is done. GO BUCKS!
