Terrence "Terry" L. Gaines

Terrence "Terry" L. Gaines, 71, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Dayspring Assisted Living in Mansfield. He was born September 26, 1947, in Brecksville, Ohio, to the late Robert W. and Eunice (Blackburn) Gaines.

Terrence received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Ohio University and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was an avid HAM radio enthusiast and lifelong learner. He retired from United Telephone where he worked as an Engineer. Terrence enjoyed reading, especially his Bible. He was an active member of Ontario Christian Fellowship. He was a generous, patient, friendly man who enjoyed meeting new people, doing his best to remember their names immediately. He was a devoted and loving husband to Christie, proud father of one son and daughter-in-love, and overjoyed grandfather of two. Terrence was very loving to his family and they will treasure the memories and legacy he leaves behind.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Christie Carson Gaines; son, Roman (Cheryl) Gaines of Columbus; two granddaughters, Audrey and Katie; brother, David Gaines of Portland, ME; brother-in-law, Ronald (Jean) Carson; sister-in-law, Jenny Carson; and his nieces, nephews and numerous friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Kenneth Carson.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday May 1, 2019, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Additional visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2019, at Ontario Christian Fellowship, 636 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor John Risner and Dr. Jim Garrett officiating and eulogy by Vern Barnhill. Terrence will be laid to rest at a later date in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with military honors presented by the U.S. Air Force.
