Steven Bruce Gottfried, 66, of Ontario, passed to join his eternal family on September 12, 2015 while at Hospice House in Ashland. He was the son of Robert James and Betty Jane (Boop) Gottfried, born on June 11, 1949 in Mansfield. He graduated from Malabar High School in 1967 and received dual degrees in business administration and computer programming from Mansfield Business College and North Central State College. He had a deep interest in family genealogy, music, and hippos. He worked within the Mansfield community at Sprint, Richland Newhope Industries as a trainer, and several other businesses. He enjoyed working with people and serving his community. He served in the United States Army at Fort Knox Kentucky. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church and had previously served on the financial committee.
He is survived by his daughter, Alicia Erin Gottfried of Ontario. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Jim (Bonnie) Henson and Dick (Jan) Henson; nieces and nephews, Phil Henson, Paula Henson, Sara Henson, Mike (Jana) Henson, Jon (Jessica) Henson, Ben Henson, Andy (Eva) Henson, and Chris Henson; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his cousins Miriam Schroeder and Ted Wieseke.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peg Henson Gottfried; brother-in-law, Dr. Thomas M. Henson; and in-laws, Dr. Benjamin and Lenna Henson.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Road, Ontario. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a future date in Mansfield Memorial Park.
