Shirley loved helping people and found a way to make her talents shine through her work and volunteer activities. She was formerly employed as a waitress at Daugherty Restaurant and also worked at Buckeye Bakery. Shirley was a volunteer at OhioHealth Hospice for three years. However, her family was her top priority throughout her life. Visiting Las Vegas and Atlantic City were fun activities where she tested her luck at a bit of gambling.
She is survived by a son, Daniel (Julie) Armstrong; three daughters, Catherine (Dave) Beach, Terri Armstrong (Jim Heffelfinger) and Karen (Carl) Chelski; thirteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Trudy (Gary) Huss. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Denvel Armstrong; brother, Ralph Thomas; and sister, Mary Hess.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Monday, August 6, 2018, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Faith Proietti officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Denvel, in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to OhioHealth Hospice, 335 Glessner Avenue, Mansfield, OH 44903.
Special thanks are given to PJ, Julie and Jake at OhioHealth Hospice for all their attention and care given to Shirley and her family.
