"Absent from the body is to be present with the Lord". After a brief illness, our Mom went to be with the Lord on August 7, 2012 at the Good Shepherd in Ashland, Ohio. Ruby Jewell Lawhun Griswold was born on May 9, 1927 in Olive Hill, Kentucky. She married James E. Griswold on November 1, 1952 who preceded her in death. Ruby was a long time member of the First Wesleyan Church in Ontario. She was retired from Peabody Barnes in 1969.
She is survived by her sons, James E. Griswold and wife, Sue of Mansfield and Randy Griswold and partner, Dennis Howard of Orlando, Florida; granddaughters, Julie Sue of Tampa, Florida, Nikki and Trevor Haughey of Tarpon Springs, Florida and Mindy and Phillip Hubert of Mansfield; six great-grandchildren, Collin, Katie, Olivia, William, Allison and LuLu. She is also survived by her Godson, James Knipp and her "adopted" daughter, Rutha Carbetta.
In addition to her husband, Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Lula (Sammons) Lawhun; her sister, Mary Bell Barker; brother-in-law, Kenneth Barker; niece, Carolyn "Sue" Fields; and mother-in-law, Edna (Womack) Griswold.
Her favorite time of the year was summer when she could go to the farm to gather veggies to cook and can for all her family and friends. No one could do laundry, with the joy, like she did.
She loved spending time with her great grandchildren. Her favorite time was going to Bob Evan's for a cobb salad or a 6 inch sub from Subway and reading her daily scripture.
Friends and family may visit Friday, August 10, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and also Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Keith Carlisle and Chaplain Duane Saylor- a long time friend of the Griswold family, conducting the service. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
Our family knows we are not saying goodbye, but, see you later Mom and Mamaw.
