Roy R. Manley "R.R.", 81, of Ontario, died Saturday, February 7, 2009 at MedCentral Hospital after a courageous one year battle with lung cancer. Born July 1, 1927, in Richland County, he was the son of Vernon and Molly Burdette Manley. He served in the U. S. Navy and was a member of the Richland Co. Joint Veterans Council, Eagles, Owls, Sons of Herman, Amvets Post #26, and was a past commander of VFW Post #9943. He was big on volunteering at the Ontario VFW Post #7651, Toy Time, the Ontario Lions Club, and even giving blood. Roy was a religious man who loved working outside in his yard. He was a true family man who was a great father and loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Roy requested to be cremated to finally conquer his cancer.
Surviving are his children, Madeline and Ed Sauer of Ontario, Frank A. Manley of Toledo, and Ret. SMSGT Douglas and Phyllis of Warrensburg, MO; grandchildren, Michelle Sauer of Ashland, Scott Dennise Sauer of Ontario, Frank Manley, Jr. of Washington, D.C., Robin Tumminia of FL, TSGT Christopher Kara Manley, serving in Iraq with the Air Force, SRA Timothy Meghan Manley of Germany, and SSGT Richard Shannon Manley of Nebraska; great grandchildren, Brock Sauer of Ontario, Tiffany and Trent Tumninia of FL, Nathan and Hannah Manley of Nebraska, and twins Connor and Aidan Manley of Germany; brother and best friend, Jack Manley of Mansfield; sister, Maxine Cline of Mansfield; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins, along with many great buddies and comrades. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Estella "Janie" Manley; sisters, Gladys Marie Hedrick and Charlotte Spry; brother, Gerald "farmer" Manley; and great granddaughter, Emily Jane Browning.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, conducted by Rev. Blake Wagner. Friends may call one hour prior to the service Monday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Military services conducted by the Richland County Joint Veteran's Burial Detail during the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
