Ron graduated from Ashland High School and following graduation, worked for Ashland Rubber Products for two years. He then went on to join Brethren Volunteer Service in January of 1961 where he stayed for two years. Ron's passion was farming, in which he started with his father and is now working with his son and grandsons.
He was a member of Maple Grove Church of the Brethren where he served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the Ashland County Farm Bureau, the AshCans Camper Club and the Travel Masters Campers Club. Ron was a 4-H Advisor for 20 years and enjoyed collecting farm toys and model trains.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene (Fowler) Shoup whom he married June 15, 1963; his children, Rick (Marty) Shoup, Ronda (David) Hinkle, Regina (John) Stutzman and Ranita (Travis) Bates; nine grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Shoup.
Friends may call from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue, Ashland. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Maple Grove Church of the Brethren conducted by Pastor John Ballinger. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, Hospice of North Central Ohio or the American Parkinson's Disease Association.
