Robert N. Whitaker, 85, of Mansfield, OH died January 30, 2014 in Sandusky, OH. Born September 26, 1928 in Alliance, OH he was the son of Frederick and Isabel (Thomlinson) Whitaker. Robert entered the United States Air Force March 25, 1946 and was honorably discharged May 18, 1952. He graduated from The Ohio State University. Robert worked for local school districts for many years, and held several different positions including being a History Teacher at Plymouth, a Counselor at both Lucas and Mansfield Senior High, and finally, the Assistant Principal at Malabar, where he retired from in 1980. After retirement, he traveled to Japan where he was the Superintendent of an American school and to Kuwait and Jordan where he was a Superintendent and Counselor at American schools. In his free time, Robert enjoyed landscaping and reading. He was a member of the Ontario VFW and AmVets.
Surviving are his wife, Beverly (Zedeker) Whitaker; daughter, Claudia Matthews; son, Robert (Tracy) Whitaker II; grandchildren, Jordan Beard , Jillian (Christian) Mauk, Mark Matthews, Abby (Doug) Humphrey, Ben Whitaker, and Emily Whitaker; and three great-grandchildren, Grant, Callum, and Braxton.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and four sisters.
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, February 3, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Rd., Ontario.
