Robert "Butch" "Sonny" "Pop" Villinger, 71, of Mansfield, passed away at OhioHealth Mansfield on Sunday, August 18, 2019. Robert was born on May 2, 1948 in Fairmont, West Virginia. He was the son of Dale Villinger and Mary (Mullens) Villinger Markle.
Bob started working at the age of 6 years old as a shoeshine boy, at 8 as a newspaper boy, at 10 he worked in a circus, at 12 at a rock quarry putting big rocks in a crushing machine, from 13-16 baling hay and other jobs for different farms, from 16-18 worked at Owens Corning fiberglass plant in Newark and at 18 joined the United States Air Force, proudly serving for eight years. Bob was a very patriotic man.
Bob retired from the Newark Police Department after 25 years, and was previously a correctional officer at the Ohio State Reformatory. After his retirement, he was a parts delivery man for Advance Auto Parts on Ashland Road, and lastly he was a parking lot attendant for Mechanic's Bank in downtown Mansfield.
He was content being at home spending time with his family, and was very devoted to his wife. She was his whole world. He loved being outdoors caring for his lawn, and doing crossword puzzles.
Robert leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Glennda (Thomas) Villinger; his daughters, Dalene (Greg) Sterling and Shannon Villinger; his grandsons, Brent Villinger and Charles Massey IV.; great-grandsons, Jason Villinger and Kayson Hixson; his sisters, Karen (Ron) Turdo and Peggy (Mike) Bader; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Zion Refuge Baptist Church, 1400 State Route 39. The Wappner Cremation Center is honored to serve the Villinger family.
