A lifelong resident of Mansfield, Bob was a veteran of the United States Army-Air Force during World War II and was a Japanese code breaker. Bob was actively involved in life for many years after his retirement as an electrician. He provided Mansfield with Christmas Wonderland for over 20 years, having made many of the animated Christmas lighting displays. He loved seeing the children's delight. He worked his second career until he was 90 years old.
Bob was a member of First United Methodist Church, a 75 year member of I.B.E.W. #688 and a member of the Amvets Post #26 of Mansfield.
He is survived by his three sons, William (Becca), Donald (Nahed) both of Mansfield and Thomas (Marla) of Perrysville; his grandchildren, Rebecca Hergatt, Darrin Hoover, Todd Hoover, Kristen Eichler, Stephanie Anderson, Zachary Hoover, Lexi Frye, Tiffany Hoover, Jessica Hoover, Regina Baker and Elena Hoover; 15 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Claire; his infant son, Terry; his brother, Earl; and his sister, Evelyn.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
