Born September 18, 1927 in Mansfield, Ohio, Dick was the son of Herschel and Ruth (Myer) Roberts. During World War II, Dick proudly served in the United States Navy. Dick was an Auto Body teacher for 17 ½ years at Madison Vocational High School where he retired in 1993. He had a passion for his profession and his students. His students held a special place in his heart, many reaching out to Dick after graduation for his advice and guidance. For 27 years, Dick owned and operated Roberts Body Shop. Dick had a knack for taking broken cars and fixing them like new.
Dick is survived by his children, Debbie (Larry) Hensley and Greg (Celia) Roberts; his grandchildren, Lt. Col. Brian (Leigh) Roberts and Bethany McGary; his nephew, Gene (Sheryl) Roberts; and many other dear nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn A. “Kate” Roberts; and his brother, Max Roberts.
Family and friends may visit from 9:00-10:00 am on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street. Pastor Matt O’Harra will officiate funeral services following immediately at 10:00 am with military honors performed by Richland County Joint Burial Squad. Burial will be in Lantz Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Kindred Hospice.
