

Mrs. Queen Esther Valentine Vance, 76, of Mansfield, died August 19, 2002 at OSU Hospital following an extended illness. Queen Esther went home to be with the Lord on Monday. Mrs. Vance was born August 12, 1926 in Pickens County, South Carolina to George Raymond and Florene Baker Valentine. She was married to the late Howard Vance, Sr. and has resided in the Mansfield area for the past 56 years. Mrs. Vance was employed with Head Start for five years and had ended her career as a Home Health Aide with Mansfield Memorial Homes after 17 years of service. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her eight brothers and four sisters. She leaves to mourn, seven daughters and their spouses, Carrell Gandy, Catherine Gilmore, Karen Caesar Vance-Coney, Rebecca Vance, Ramona Vance, Danita Terre Carter all of Mansfield and Linda Jones of Massillon; five sons and their spouses, Howard Vance, Jr., Patrick Epper Valentine Vance, Leslie Vance and Jay Vance all of Mansfield; and Michael Rhonda Vance of Columbus; thirty grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Friday August 23, 2002 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 24, 2002 at Greater St. John Church of God in Christ at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the home of her daughter, Catherine Gilmore, 198 Gerke Ave., Mansfield.
