Phyllis Lucille Zahn, 79, of Ontario, passed away at Galion Pointe on Monday, August 6, 2018. She was born on December 29, 1938 in Mansfield, Ohio. Phyllis was the daughter of Harry Newton Gordon and Lena Gale (Zerkel) Gordon.
Phyllis was a devoted wife, loving mother, #1 grandmother, great-grandmother and “kiki”. She was a woman of determination in all aspects of her life. She had a love for sports, was a cheerleader in high school and an avid OSU fan. She enjoyed tailgating at Ohio State as she was a season ticket holder for football and basketball. Phyllis loved to share her talent of cooking with her family often making favorites like pork chops, pigs in a blanket, and many others. She was employed as a line worker at Therm O Disc and previously was a realtor for 30 years. Phyllis was very involved with staying fit by walking and regularly attending the YMCA. Being active was very much a part of her being, as she enjoyed golfing at Shelby County Club, bowling, line dancing, and attending The Mehock Relays. She was actively involved at the Ontario United Methodist Church where she made food baskets for the cancer society and helped raise money for the cancer fund. Phyllis was very social, loved her home and opening it up to entertain, as she loved chaperoning for Miss Ohio year after year.
Surviving are Phyllis’s husband whom she married in January of 1960, Fred Zahn; children, Kimberle (Jim) Sorensen, Kelly (Eric) Smith, and Ken (Jen) Zahn; grandchildren, Richard (Brittany) Bayer, Michael (Brittany) Bayer, Scott (Kait) Bayer, Matthew and Kyle McNeil, Mitchell, Mason and Jack Zahn; step-grandson, James Sorensen; step-granddaughters, Hannah and Hayley Smith; great-grandchildren, Ellie Hope, Nora June, and Lucy Mae Bayer, and Marlowa Grace Bayer. Also surviving are a sister, Alice Walker; and a brother, David (Rita) Gordon; as well as many nieces and nephews
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Kate Samples, Carl Gordon, Gladys Rhodebeck, Ralph Gordon, Helen West, Don Gordon, Paul Gordon, and Bill Gordon.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Road from 5:00-8:00 pm. A graveside service will be conducted by Pastor Karen Wagenhals at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Mansfield Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 11:30 am at the Ontario United Methodist Church, 3540 Park Avenue West.
