Opal A. Holmes, 92, of Mansfield, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Brethren Care Village in Ashland. Opal was born October 20, 1916 in Marion, Ohio. An area homemaker, she lovingly doted on her children who were the pride and joy of her life. Opal attended Southview Grace Brethren Church in Ashland.
Surviving are her four sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Louise Witchey of Reno, Nevada, Robert Dee Witchey of Mansfield, Ronald Ceci Witchey of Placentia, California, and John "Skip" Vicky Holmes of Mansfield; ten grandchildren, whom she loved dearly; six step-grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; fourteen step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Opal in death, was her husband, John "Bus" Holmes; her mother, Martha Turner Walter; her daughter, Patricia Holmes; three brothers who had resided in California; and one sister who had resided in Arizona.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 South Lexington-Springmill Road, on Monday, May 11, 2009 from 5:00PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service, in Opal's honor, will occur on Tuesday, May 12 at 10:30AM at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Mark Abel, and Chaplain Jerry Gess. Burial will take place in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made in Opal's memory, to Brethren Care Village, 2000 Center Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
