Michael William Race, Jr., 97, of Mansfield, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Mansfield Memorial Homes. Born November 29, 1919 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of Michael William Race, Sr. and Mary (Pavlovich) Race.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Westinghouse following 40 years of service. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and Liederkranz. He loved to dance and was a member of the Pandora Club along with his wife, Florence. He was an avid skier and was a member of the Border Patrol at Snow Trails. He was known as the neighborhood "handyman" as he could fix anything and had a tool for everything. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending time at their cottage on the lake.
He is survived by a son, Larry (Linda) Race of Mansfield; a daughter, Judith Donathan of Mansfield; grandchildren, Jon M. McKee, Mark S. (Anita) McKee, Laurie (Jeff) Monica and Lynelle (Doug) Rickert all of Mansfield; great grandchildren, Bryce McKee, Connor McKee, Madelyn (Chris) Rogers, Jamie Monica, Jenna (Nick) Gerber, Jordan Monica, Olivia Rickert and Cal Rickert; great great grandchildren, Aniyah Monica, Jaedyn Monica, Amiyah Monica and Hudson Gerber; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Florence May (Schropp) Race; a brother, Joe (Evelyn) Race; a sister, Dorothy (Al) Kevern; and a son-in-law, Orville Donathan.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Oak Grove Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House or Richland Newhope.
