Mary Jo Kinney of Lucas, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday, August 19, 2022. She was 79 years young. She was born October 14, 1942, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Curtis and Anna (Stors) Shaffer.
Mary Jo was the Queen of Jokes—she always had a joke to tell. If she had already told that joke, we still laughed at it again because she told it so well. Mary Jo was the best mom, granny and mother-in-law anyone could ever ask for. She was so looking forward to meeting her first great-granddaughter.
Her favorite activity was spending time with family and friends. Playing cards, golf, or going out to eat were a wonderful time for her. Her favorite place to eat was Mansfield Restaurant. She also enjoyed her monthly get-together with the girls. Most of all, she looked forward to any activity involving her only grandson, Brandan. To anyone who knew Mary Jo, she was one of a kind. She has left a lifelong impression for the people who knew her.
Mary Jo is survived by a daughter, Shirl (Chris) Johnson-White; “her sweet baby boy”, son, Dirk Kinney; grandson, Brandan (Lauren) Johnson; two brothers, John Shaffer and Woodrow Shaffer; a sister, Beverly Smith; special friends, John Northrup, Judy Stiteler, Carolyn Simmering and Jeff Hicks; and many other dear and special friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel Kinney; son-in-law, Terry Johnson; and sister-in-law, Wanda Shaffer.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The funeral service conducted by Rev. Carol Kilgore will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. with additional visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest in Mansfield Cemetery.
