Mabel Mae Saunier, 85, of Mansfield, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Winchester Terrace Nursing Home. She passed away on what would have been her 67th wedding anniversary with her husband, Alva. Born October 16, 1922 in Mansfield, she was the daughter of Jay E.F. and Hilda Mae Bemiller Baker. Mabel graduated from Mansfield Senior High in 1940 and enjoyed going out with the Lunch Bunch from Mansfield Senior High. Mabel also enjoyed being a member of the AARP, Eastview Mother's Club, Weight Watchers, and the Berean Baptist Lunch Ministry. She loved to cook, and collected recipes and angels. Known for her sparkling blue eyes and ready smile, she lovingly touched everyone she came in contact with and was always a kind and gentle caregiver.
She is survived by one daughter, Jeanne Dr. Roger Winger of Marion; two sons, Joie D. Kathie Saunier, and Robert A. Connie Saunier, all of Mansfield; six grandchildren, Gregory S. Debbie Winger, Bradley J. Winger, all of Marion, Kristen Brian Szudlo of Powell, Julia Erik Pietras of Willard, Jeremy R. Jessie Saunier of Rockville, Maryland, and Geoffrey A. Saunier of Ohio; five great grandchildren, Ashlee, Ryan, Tyler, and Christopher Winger of Marion, and Spencer Szudlo of Powell; sisters, E. Maxine Lee Oswalt, Jenevieve James Oswalt, all of Mansfield, and Shirley Boyce of Shelby; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alva E. Saunier; and her parents.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2008 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Cloyd E. Kress. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the March of Dimes Team Spencer Columbus.
