Leon Gene Jacobs, 92, of Ashland, Ohio passed away on January 12, 2021 from complications associated with COVID. Leon was born in Ashland on June 19, 1928, the son of the late Galen and Helen (Welch) Jacobs. He graduated from Ashland High School in 1946 and from Kent State with a business degree where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Leon received his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Miami in 1957 and was admitted as a member of both the Florida and Ohio Bars. Leon worked at Allstate Insurance and Transport Insurance in Akron, Ohio before moving to Atlanta to work for Transit Casualty Insurance. Leon also practiced law in private practice in Florida before returning to Atlanta to work as Legal Counsel for Gay & Taylor, finally retiring in 1992. Leon was a member of the Ashland YMCA where he served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors. He was a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ashland where he served as an Elder, Chairman of the Deacons and taught Sunday School.
Leon was preceded in death by his wife Suzanne Jacobs in 1988 and his second wife Mary Jacobs in 2020. Leon is survived by his son Gene Jacobs (Jamie) of Tulsa, OK and his daughter Kathy Jacobs (Scott) of Atlanta, Georgia. Leon is also survived by his three granddaughters Genie Zhulin (Vasiliy) of New York, Katie Jacobs and Emily Jacobs both of Atlanta, Georgia and his great granddaughter Zoey Zhulin.
A graveside service will be held Friday, January 22, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Polk Cemetery, 282 E. Congress St. Polk, Ohio 44866. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta. The Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the Jacobs family.
