LaVerne M. (Douville) Bauer, age 91, of Mansfield, passed away Friday afternoon, November 30, 2018, at Wedgewood Estates. She was born May 18, 1927, in Cudahy, Wisconsin, to the late Roy and Jean (Skrobacki) Douville.
She graduated from St. Peter's Catholic High School with the Class of 1944. LaVerne had a 28 year career at Perfection Manufacturing where she was employed as Secretary and Vice President. On July 17, 1948, she married the love of her life, Rudolph J. Bauer and they shared 70 amazing years of marriage. She was a longtime member of Resurrection Parish in Lexington and the Daughters of Herman. Having an adventurous spirit, LaVerne enjoyed ice skating, traveling, golfing, bowling and playing cards. She enjoyed visiting Las Vegas over 30 times to try her luck. Her fondest memories were made at her cottage at Lake Erie with her family and friends.
LaVerne leaves behind her beloved husband, Rudolph J. Bauer; two children, Jeffrey (Marlene) Bauer of Louisville, KY and Michele (Scott) Shiplet of Mansfield; four grandchildren, Justin (Bobbi) Bauer, Rachel (Brett) Klausing, Vince (Dea) Shiplet and Erika (Keith) Gibson; three great-grandchildren, Kensie Bauer, Kailey Bauer and Grady Gibson; a sister, Lenore Stakelin Brooke of Mansfield; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Douville.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, December 8, 2018, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. A memorial service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. Private burial in Mansfield Cemetery will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or OhioHealth Hospice.
