Karen M. Carter, 66, of Mansfield, went home to be with Jesus Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Kindred Hospital following a long illness. Born August 1, 1946 in Ravenna, Ohio she was the daughter of Marks and Elaine L. (Geho) Black.
She had worked for MedCentral Crestline before becoming disabled and had attended Real Life Community Church along with the Ladies Small Group. Karen enjoyed organizing events at Applewood Place where she resided and also enjoyed traveling and experiencing new things with the exception of new foods. Her love of animals was one of her greatest joys along with her beloved kitty, Sissy Poo. She also loved to ride motorcycles, talking on the telephone, listening to music, reading American history, nature and animals, especially horses but her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Lori D. (Vincent) Goff-Carter and Deanna J. Whyel; a stepdaughter, Lila McCartney; a stepson, Darrell Bonds; grandchildren, Alex B. Pinney, Dierdre D. Carter, Tiana M. C. Carter, Elizabeth E. Whyel, Jessica E. Waugh and Heather McCartney; a great grandson, Noah Kocher; brothers, Kurt (Deborah) Renner, Karl Renner, Matthew (Ramona) Renner and Steven (Sean) Renner; a sister, Denise Renner; a step father, Raymond (Eva) Renner; a great aunt, Pet Harrison; nieces and nephews, Forrest Collins, Sarah Renner, Alyss A. Renner, Shane (Cassie) Grizer, Robin (Johnathan) Porter, Joshua Andrei, Karl R. Renner, Jeremy Renner, Kurt Renner and Christopher Renner; great nieces, Maggie Grizer and Lila Jane Collins; and great nephew, Morgan Huxtable and her extended family, Debby Eutsay, Donna Renner, Stephanie McElvain, Becky Morris and Greg Evege.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Carter; a nephew, Shawn Grizer; and her step mother, Dorothy Renner.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Steven Renner. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
