Joie Dean Saunier, 58, of Mansfield, died early Friday, September 18, 2009, at his home. Born December 8, 1950, in Mansfield, he was the son of Alva and Mabel Baker Saunier. He was a 1969 graduate of Madison Senior High School and attended North Central Technical College and The Ohio State University. Joie was a member of I.B.E.W. Local #688 and was employed as an electrician. He was a member of the Lexington Lions Club and volunteered for many groups throughout the community. A man who saw value in everything, he collected bits and pieces, always looking for a use in the many items he fixed. Joie was an all around handyman, fixing things for others and was a friend to everyone. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge with all he met and loved learning new things. Joie's grandchildren were the lights of his life and he achieved his goal of seeing both of them born before his passing.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathie L. Murphy Saunier; two children, Julia Erik Pietras of Willard and Jeremy Jessica Saunier of Rockville, MD; grandchildren, Cameron Joseph Saunier and Gabriella Ann Pietras; a sister, Jeanne Roger Winger of Marion; a brother, Robert Connie Saunier of Mansfield; and his mother-in-law, Jayne Murphy. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Wayne Murphy.
Friends may visit from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2009, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Adam Irwin officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
