John Whitt, 74, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. Born April 30, 1947 in Jewell Ridge, Virginia, he was the son of Randolph and Hazel ( Joyce) Whitt.
John was a veteran of the United States Army and worked as a chef at various local restaurants with his last place being Steve's Place for Steaks. A Christian man, he was affiliated with Lenox Baptist Church. John was a people person who didn't know a stranger and loved to pick at people. He loved to draw and write songs. John enjoyed fishing, going out to restaurants, watching wrestling and the news, but his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda "Jean" (Dinger) Whitt; a son, Matthew (Shirley) Phillips; a daughter, Kristie Evans (Billy Jennings); grandchildren, Colene (Brian) Ortiz, Wanda Smith, Kevin Roberson (Autumn Malicoat), James Carpenter and Jami Fadley; great grandchildren, Stephen Bryant Hunt (Emilie Allen), Brian Ortiz, Jr., Kisha Ortez, Lisa Lemons, Ethan Thomas, Christian Thomas, Aryanna Roberson and Alyck Roberson; and great great granchildren, Brayden, Praxton and Jaxson Hunt.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
