John Eugene Stone, 84, of Pine Hurst, NC passed away Thursday, October 3, 2024. John lived most of his life in Mansfield until moving to North Carolina in July, 2021 to be near his son. He attended St Peter’s High School and enlisted in the United States Army during his senior year. John was a very talented craftsman with experience in many professions. He was a carpenter, plumber, electrician, and welder and was generous in using his talents to help others. John was quick to lend a hand to family and friends when they needed help with their home projects. He worked for Mansfield Tire until they closed. John was then self-employed for many years with his own business, Stone Remodeling, and worked for the Carpenters Union. He taught Carpentry Class at Madison Comprehensive High School where he and his students built a house in the Mansfield area every year as part of their class project. John was a very patriotic veteran. He was proud of his country and his military service and served on the Richland County Burial Squad with AMVETS post 26. John enjoyed westerns and could usually be found watching his favorite TV series, Gunsmoke. John was a member of Resurrection Parish.
John is survived by his children, Tony (Karla) Stone of Grosse Pointe Park, MI, Brian (Karen) Stone of Cardington, OH, Doug (Dawn) Stone of Sanford, NC, and a daughter; ex-wife and mother of his children, Shirley of Delaware, OH; grandchildren, Ashley, Danika, Jessica, Shelby, Reena, Gabriel, Jacob and four additional grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Adler and Caleb, and sister Kathleen Yockey of Mansfield. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Phyllis Stone of Mansfield.
Friends and family are welcome to gather Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Wappner Funeral Directors-Mansfield, 98 S. Diamond Street at 10:00 AM. A service will follow at 11:00 AM. John will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Memorial Park.
