John T. Heard, 87, of Mansfield, died Friday, February 20, 2015 at Liberty Nursing Center. Born September 3, 1927 in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of Larkin Bailey and Helen Irene (Duncan) Heard. Upon graduating from high school, John served in the U.S. Navy and afterwards attended Southeast Missouri State College where he obtained a bachelor's degree in marketing. He became affiliated with Richland Blue Print in 1960 and eventually assumed ownership of the company with his partner John Barnes. John was formerly with Beech Aircraft and Texaco. John was a member of the YMCA for over 40 years where he loved playing racquetball. He was also a member of the Mid Ohio Sports Car Club, Duck's Unlimited, and the University Club. A very outgoing and competitive man, he also had a heart of gold. John was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a licensed gun dealer.
He is survived by his sister, Eleanor (Howard) Roberts of Evansville, IN; one niece, Paula; two nephews, Jeff and John; sisters-in-law Mary Navratil, Gloria Hughes, Connie Navratil, and Donna Navratil and their children; and long time caregivers, Connie Ernsberger and Joy Pack.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Lorraine Heard.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Diamond St. Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, conducted by Rev. George Reece. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
