Joan R. Beer, 78, of Mansfield, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby, Ohio. She was born January 3, 1938, in Ontario, Ohio, to the late E. Leon and Gertrude (Gaul) Danals.
She graduated from Springfield Township High School in 1956. Her husband, Ralph R. Beer, was her Junior High sweetheart and they married on April 5, 1959, spending 57 wonderful years together. Joan preferred to support others rather than have the spotlight shone on her. She enjoyed helping at church dinners and seemed to never stop moving. She sewed many clothes throughout the years and everyone knew they had that special touch of Joan. A woman filled with love, Joan would go out of her way to help others and was careful to not hurt anyone's feelings. She was a fantastic baker and spoiled everyone around her with her delicious and unique cookies. Family picnics and corn roasts were events she looked forward to attending. She was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and her family is blessed with many wonderful memories.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Ralph Beer; three children, Dorinda (Wayne) Manges of Lexington, Jonette (Jim) Collins of Ontario, and Donald (Wendy) Beer of Ashland; five grandchildren, Daniel (Tamara) Manges of Powell, Holly (Sean) Mecurio of Ontario, Nicholas (Stacey) Collins of Canal Winchester, Heidi Collins (Brian Wert) of Mansfield, and AJ Beer of Ashland; three step grandchildren, Megan (Chad) Auer, Taylor Graham, and Darci (Mark) Thompson; four great-grandchildren, Simon, Liora and Thaddeus Manges and Braxton Collins; eleven step great-grandchildren, Cody, Brian Jr., and Dyamond Wert, Amanda and Elizabeth Crace, Riley and Leah Wood, Julia and Dylan Auer, Baylee Doss and Cori Thompson; and one step great-great grandchild, Paislee Crace. Joan is also survived by a sister, Helen (Dave) Nicholson; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Ron "Pat" Danals.
The family will received friends from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2016, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service conducted by Rev. Peg Welch and Rev. Karen Wagenhals will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in Ontario United Methodist Church, 3540 Park Avenue West, Ontario, Ohio. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Contributions honoring Joan's selfless spirit may be made to Ontario United Methodist Church, the Alzheimer's Association, or Hospice of North Central Ohio.
