Jerry was a 1956 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. A well respected man in his chosen profession, he was a member of Electricians Local Union # 688. Jerry worked for a number of businesses as a gifted trouble shooter, eventually retiring from Lake Erie Electric. He remained active by constantly working out and playing softball until the age of 73. He was an enthusiastic baseball fan, rooting for his favorite team, the New York Yankees, throughout his life. He was the pitching coach for Shelby High School baseball from 1995-1996.
A great man of integrity, Jerry was kind to everyone he met. He was a selfless family man, humble and generous, and lived his life by the Golden Rule. His honorable character and leadership skills set a wonderful example for others to follow.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rebecca "Becky" Reeves Holden; four children, Belinda Southard of Hilliard, Cathy (Mark) Switzer of TX, Lori Holden-Sjostedt (Rick) of Mansfield and Jeremy "Jerry" (Lindsey) Holden of Ontario; two step children, David (April) Mulkey of Ashland and Tammy Hales of Shelby; thirteen grandchildren, Stephen Southard, Trevor (Samantha) Southard, Deiserea Holden, Alysha (Joshua) Applegate, Tori Keen, C.J. Hales, Garrett Hales, Taylinn Hales, Brett Mulkey, Jaren Holden, Liam Holden, Nolan Holden and Aven Holden; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his good friend, Jim Zivkoff; and Javier "Javi", his miniature chihuahua.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Sams Holden and Larry Holden; biological father, Harper Dale Au; and a grandson, Wesley Miller.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Kim Maurer officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery with military honors presented by the U.S. Navy.
