Jacob V. Merle, 84, of 690 Villa Dr., Mansfield, died Sunday evening, August 3, 2003 at MedCentral Mansfield following an extended illness. Mr. Merle was born July 19, 1919 in Needles British Columbia, Canada, residing in the Mansfield area most of his life. He retired from Westinghouse after 37 years of service and was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during World War II. Mr. Merle was a member of AmVets, American Legion, Eagles, Moose, Sons of Herman, Elks and VFW. Merle enjoyed boating and fishing.
Surviving are his wife of 26 years, Betty A. Harich Merle of Mansfield; four sons and two daughters-in-law, David V. and Carol Merle; Harry L. and Terri Merle and Mack Merle all of Mansfield; and Jacob Merle of Shelby; two daughters and one son-in-law, Carol and Doug Jacobs of Mansfield and Madge Long of Loudonville; fourteen grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren; one sister, Kate Nixon of Mansfield; and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Rose Sentz Merle; his first wife, Mary Jane Reece Merle; four sisters, Rose Bishop; Madge DeMarse; Mary Heffelfinger; and Elizabeth Herring; and one brother, Anton Merle.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Wednesday, August 6, 2003 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. There will be no funeral services held.
